Best Spots For A Brew:
If you love craft beer, you’re very lucky that Nanaimo has an amazing brewery scene! Within a short, 10 minute drive of each other, you’ll find no less than 3 awesome spots to enjoy a cold pint. Whether you prefer a crisp, light lager, a hoppy IPA, or something dark and malty, Nanaimo has you covered! Here are 3 of our favourite places to imbibe:
Located directly across from Maffeo Sutton Park, White Sails has arguably the best atmosphere for beer drinking in the city. With a gigantic fireplace for warmth, plenty of tables, and lots of games to play, you can definitely spend a few hours here relaxing over one of their many award-winning offerings. They have up to 14 beer on tap (mostly theirs and a few from their friends!) and you can buy and fill growlers to go.
The original Nanaimo brewpub opened in 2010 and is tucked in an industrial park just off the highway. Wolf offers outstanding beer running the gamut from light to dark, so no matter your palate, you’re sure to find something that pleases. Wolf also is a great venue for open mic events featuring comedy nights and local singers. Wolf usually runs with around 8 offerings on tap and also has growlers to go. They have a small food menu and a dog-friendly patio as well!
The newest addition to the Nanaimo craft beer scene is very aptly named. Featuring around 20 beer on tap from local-ish brewers, this is a great place to try some beer from around here without having to drive all over the island! This central hub features a street-side patio that is permanently packed in the summer, along with some inside seating. They have a fantastic menu as well, including some well-known mac and cheese offerings.
There are also numerous other fantastic breweries up and and down the island. Victoria, Duncan, Ladysmith and Courtenay/Comox all have places that are well worth checking out. For more information, you can check this very thorough link to the Island’s
Ale Trail.
We’d love to hear what some of your favourite pubs or pints are along the way. Send us a picture of your adventures to
